The Best Time to Plant a Tree
About a month ago I read a book called “The Power of Starting Something Stupid”, by Richie Norton. I loved this book! It was short and inspiring – just what I need! In it, he talks about all those things we dream about doing, and how we should just start working on something. He says to imagine you’re 80 years old and you’re thinking about your life. Is there anything you wish you had accomplished? The thing you feel you would regret not having done the most is a good place to start.
The very day I finished reading this book, my husband and I went to see “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, which I also loved! It was funny and visually stunning and the theme was exactly the same as the book I’d just read.
The next day I read this quote: “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second-best time is now.”
Do you ever feel like the world is trying to tell you something? Sometimes I do. I’ve got some things I’m working on, and I’m so excited! It’s nice to stop putting things off and actually do what I feel I’m meant to do.
In our house, we have a 16×20 frame that I fill with rotating posters. Sometimes they are holiday-themed, and sometimes they have inspirational quotes. And sometimes they just say, “kids, do your jobs”. Just kidding, I haven’t done that one, but probably should! I get the posters printed up at Costco for $6. What a deal! Here’s the poster I made for this month.
We sat down as a family and discussed this quote for about half an hour. It was so great! If you’d like a copy of the file to print up for yourself, you can download it here.
