Books To Love: Grandpa Green

February 6, 2013

Today I was at the fabric store waiting for my turn to have my fabric cut when I stumbled upon this book, Grandpa Green, by Lane Smith.  I started flipping through the pages and soon found myself enveloped in a topiary wonderland.  I started at the beginning of the book and read every page, soaking in the beautiful words and art.  It turns out it was a Caldecott Honor Book.

My stroller that was filled with bolts of fabric completely blocked the aisle, but I didn’t care.  I was hooked.  People who needed buttons and bits of elastic were forced to shove past me or go around; I was in another world.  I highly recommend this book as one for purchase – it will make a wonderful addition to any family library.  It’s definitely been added to my wish list.  If you’re not the buying type, consider checking it out at your library, or at the very least block everyone in the store while you stand in the aisle and read it.
