Writing
I have spent the last two years writing and editing my first novel. I’m currently working to get an agent to represent my work to publishers. It’s an excruciating process that makes you question everything about yourself.
People often ask me questions about writing and publishing. I don’t know a lot, but I’ve definitely learned some things in the last year! So here are a few things I’ve learned and a few resources I have found helpful:
Books I have read:
- Your first Novel by Laura Whitcomb and Ann Rittenberg
- How I Write by Janet Evanovich
- The Perfect Pitch by Katharine Sands
I’ve also done a lot of research using www.agentquery.com. I joined www.writersmarket.com, but honestly I think agent query is much more user friendly – plus it’s free! Bonus!
Also check out Nathan Bransford’s blog. As a former agent and current author, he has a lot of great insights and current information about the rapidly changing industry.
How do you get your ideas?
This is another question people ask me a lot. I get my ideas from everything around me. Look at a situation and think, what if? You will start living more aware and more mindfully, which I think is one of my favorite things about writing. It literally changes the way you live.
I am also in the process of trying to find an agent! Brutal is right. I also use the sites you use and have many many agent rejections. Ah well, if it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it, right? Keep writing and good luck!
